NAHMA Educational Foundation Thanks Its Supporters

Alexandria, Va., Feb. 7, 2022 ― The National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) Educational Foundation recently concluded its 2021 program year. The foundation awarded 87 scholarships worth a total of $304,500 to student residents of federally subsidized affordable housing communities. Additionally, $2,000 was donated to the Real Estate Management Department at Virginia Tech for scholarships for students pursuing their bachelor’s degree in property management. Over the life of the program, 1,001 scholarships have been awarded worth a total of $2,261,250.

The 2021 fundraising campaign culminated with the NAHMA Educational Foundation’s annual fundraising gala. The gala was a virtual PiNAHMA Party on Nov. 4, 2021. The annual gala serves as the primary public fundraising event for the foundation, with proceeds going to the scholarship program. Thanks to donors, the 2021 event raised $450,000.

“The NAHMA Educational Foundation Board of Directors appreciates the enormous generosity of our many donors. This generosity holds even more importance in recent years with the new challenges and uncertainties upon us all, through which we have continued to learn and understand more of the perseverance and strength of our scholars. The donor support allowed the foundation to make $3,500 individual scholarship awards in 2021, a very impactful amount. Please encourage your residents to apply for a scholarship this year. We know there are more inspiring messages yet to be shared and amazing successes waiting to be celebrated!” NAHMA Educational Foundation chairperson, Dr. Alicia Stoermer Clark, said.

The 2022 scholarship application is currently available to prospective applicants. Any resident in good standing at an AHMA- or NAHMA-affiliated affordable housing community that is a high school senior, a high school equivalency diploma holder, or matriculated college student enrolled at an accredited community college, college, university, or trade/technical school is invited to apply for the scholarship program.

The application is available at https://nahma.communityforce.com. The application must be completed online by May 12, 10 p.m. Eastern. Completed applications must include an application form, one reference, an essay, a certification of residency in good standing form, and an official grade transcript showing grades through the fall 2021 semester. For more details on applying for a NAHMA Educational Foundation scholarship, contact Dr. Bruce W. In addition, the NAHMA Educational Foundation has key fundraising events planned for 2022, including the premier benefit gala dinner in October at The Hay-Adams hotel held in conjunction with NAHMA’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The event incorporates a live and silent auction consisting of the Drug-Free Kids Calendar posters, trips, jewelry and other items. A separate ticket from the NAHMA October meeting registration is required to attend the fundraiser.
