Challenges of Mental Health and Housing
Presented by: Karen Trawick, Service Coordinator, Opportunities Towers I and II
Members of our communities can have challenges with mental health that adversely impacts their housing. These challenges become increasingly difficult for us as resident managers when it affects the rest of the community. Recognizing changes in the daily behaviors of our residents can help us overcome these challenges. This seminar will discuss some of the early signs of mental illness and early onset Alzheimer’s and dementia. In order to help our residents stay in our communities, we will also discuss some of the resources available to our residents.
Ebonye Williams, Landlord Engagement Specialist, Office of Homeless Services, City of Philadelphia, will also present on Office of Homeless Services and their Landlord Engagement Program.
Within Ebonye’s role, landlord partnerships have been expanded, housing subsidy programs were created to accommodate fair market rates, required supportive services for tenant rental success was added, and streamlined waiting list based on need assessments enforced. Due to those added components, we have a 92% housing success rate.
